ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: congratulating the Wauwatosa East Girls Basketball Team on their 2025 Division II State Basketball Championship.
Whereas, the Wauwatosa East Red Raiders Girls Basketball Team won the program's first state title in 44 years with a 59-58 victory over top-seeded Edgewood High School; and
Whereas, the victory occurred in the first triple-overtime game in WIAA girls basketball history; and
Whereas, the Wauwatosa East Girls Basketball Team displayed selfless teamwork in achieving their goal of a state championship; and
Whereas, the Wauwatosa East Girls Basketball program’s work ethic, toughness, and perseverance culminated in a winning season and program turnaround that just five years prior had a winless season in Greater Metro Conference play; and
Whereas, the Wauwatosa East Girls Basketball program is fortunate to have great kids and a supportive community along its season’s journey; and
Whereas, Coach Mary Merg and the girls basketball team have achieved a well-earned winning season and lasting legacy at Wauwatosa East; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin State Legislature hereby commends and congratulates the Wauwatosa East Girls Basketball Team on their 2025 Division II State Basketball Championship.
